How to Make the Most of Valentines Day!
Tarah Avery
So this week on Valentines Day, you have a choice…Your choice is to sit around and sulk (for those of you who think this day is “singles awareness day”) or you can celebrate!
“But Tarah I don’t have a boyfriend/girlfriend to share this beloved day of love with!”
That’s exactly it!! you’re celebrating love.
If I were to ask you what the essence of love was..what would you tell me? That it’s when you get those tingles all over your body or those dinosaurs in your belly at the thought of that person. When all you want to do is spend time with them, give yourself to them, or when you care enough to put them before yourself, when you know you would do anything for them..?
Those may be aspects of what the world defines as love, but really, love is an act, not a feeling. Love can only be summed up in this verse:
Found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7:
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
Who in your mind could ever fit these words to a tee? I know I can’t! But you know who can? Jesus can. He is the essence of these words. He is love, he lived love.
This week, celebrate this essence.
Valentine’s day is not all about chocolates, roses, and romance with just any person. Instead of looking at what you don’t have, instead of allowing the world to tell you that you are unwanted and worthless on this day without “love,” celebrate with the creator of love.
I spent 22 years without a “Valentine,”(besides my dad ;) and I know how it feels not to have someone to share this day with. But rather than feeling unwanted, spend it with the man that wants you the most!
Here are some ideas:
- Make some chocolate or cheese fondue with some yummy dippers like strawberries, bananas, bread, pineapple, etc.
- Read a good book.
- Get some girlfriends together and have a spa night- facemasks and everything! Add the fondue here too 😉
YES! I’ve done each of these 🙂
Just get off the couch, put down that gallon of ice cream, and celebrate because my friend, there is a man who is so madly in love with you and wants to remind you of how valued and precious you are to him. He is love and he wants to show you not only on Valentine’s Day but every day, how much he loves you.
My prayer to you all is this: That you might enjoy this time in spite of what the world tells you, that you will not settle for anything less than the perfect love of God. That you will allow him to envelop you in his might and make this Valentine’s day one to remember. You are loved, you are wanted. By a God who is unchanging and can give abounding love, an everlasting love.
All my love,
