The 2 Things Every Man Needs
Gordon Avery
Inspired by Pete Carroll
Every man needs two things. He longs for it. He secretly desires it with every fiber; even if he isn’t consciously aware of the fact.
And Pete Carroll knows it.
Ladies, if you’ve ever dreamed of having a champion level husband, pay attention. Give a man these two things and he will be on his way to being all you dreamed of.
A survey of 320 NFL players was conducted recently. The question was simple: Which head coach would you most to play for?
Guess who? Pete Carroll. And it wasn’t even close. By and far, above all other coaches, he was picked. And this was before the Seahawks became world champions.
Why is this the case? The reason is not complex. Pete has tapped into the two things that every man desires more than anything on earth. And if you want to win a man’s loyalty and bring the best out of him, you need to do the same.
It will revolutionize your relationship with your man.
But you must give a man both. One without the other will only destroy what you have.
So, what are the 2 things every man needs?
#1: To be Believed in.
Why is Pete Carroll the most popular coach amongst NFL players? Why does his young men love him so?
Because he believes in them. He thinks they can all be great. He really does. And he tells them so every single day.
How is it that so many of the great players on the Seahawks were essentially never heard of before? How is that the majority of their starters where undrafted? The Superbowl MVP? Some guy people barely know. Russell Wilson? He was supposed to be too short to play quarterback.
But now they are doing things no one thought possible. They are men that are shocking the world. They are champions.
A woman who believes in her man; and tells him so every day will witness the same thing. He may surprise you. He certainly will surprise himself. He may not look like a champion, but he can become one if you believe in him. (See “roMANces: How to Romance a Man, Part II” for more)
#2: To be Challenged. To be held Accountable.
The phrase you will hear over and over in the Seahawks facility is “Always Compete.” There is something in a man that loves a challenge. And the only reason we shy away from one is if we fear of failing.
Pete Carroll makes every player compete for their job. No matter who they are. No matter how much money they make. See no one loses their job here, they win it. This is the only reason why Russell Wilson and not Matt Flynn is the starting quarterback. Carroll said it was an open competition, and he meant it.
In other words, Pete Carroll holds his young men accountable.
Every man desperately needs this in their life. We need someone to tell us, “No, you will not settle for mediocrity.” We need to hear, “You’re better than what you think. I believe more from you.” And many times we need a woman that says, “No.”
My beautiful Tarah tells me “No” all the time. In fact, she always has. And guess what? I’ve always been drawn to her because of it. For to challenge a man to be his best is the most respect and honoring thing you can do. He will love you for it.
But be warned. You must do both. You must believe and you must challenge. Unfortunately, the majority of women do one or the other. She will either “believe in him” while simultaneously allowing him to walk over her; treating her like dirt. Or she will turn into the scolding mother who makes her man feel like the biggest loser; that he could never make her happy.
Don’t do that.
Give a man Belief and Challenge him to be better…and he will love you forever. You may even be surprised to find what he is capable of.
Best,
