What is the Root Question of Most Women’s Insecurity?
Tarah Avery
Have you ever had the thought that you weren’t pretty enough? Good enough? That 20 years from now you will no longer captivate your boyfriend? Fiancé? Husband?
The thoughts like, “Would he choose me all over again?” or “Will he still be captivated by me if someone else prettier/more fun/smarter comes along?”
This may not be the case every day, but I don’t doubt that we’ve ALL had those thoughts every now and then.
When I met Gordon, I didn’t like him. But over a year God began to show me that he was the type of man (if not the man) that I would marry one day.
I had no idea “one day” meant years 4 years of waiting. Waiting for him to notice. Waiting for him to pursue. Waiting for him to take me out of the “friends” zone.
Those years of waiting were some of the hardest years as a woman. He wasn’t coming for me…I wasn’t captivating enough for him to pursue. I wasn’t worth the fight.
Over time my focus had changed from finding my worth in my Father Jesus to finding my worth in this man who I was so sure would become my husband.
It wasn’t until God took me on a journey to the other side of the world that I was able to refocus my mind and give my heart back to Him.
He began to remind me of my worth, and my value. He reminded me of how captivating I am in His eyes, and that I’m worth fighting for. He fought for me. And He will never stop.
I believe our deepest fear is that we aren’t worth the fight.
And it is only through listening to who God says we are that we gain the confidence that will lessen this fear and prevent us from making irrational and potentially emotionally or physically damaging choices.
Ladies, who does God say we are?
Lovely & Captivating (Song of Songs 2:14/4:7/4:9)
Made Perfect, in the body He gave us (Psalm 139:13-15)
Enough. Just the way we are (Psalm 73:26)
We are His prized daughters (Matthew 10:30-31)
Secure in His love (Philippians 4:19)
And SO much more! It’s all in His love letter to us.
Action: Write down those verses, somewhere you can see them every day. Do this as a reminder of who God says you are.
He knows the deepest parts of your heart and soul. He sees you even when no one else seems to. And loves you with a deep and passionate love that you will not find anywhere else.
Live today as an overcomer. You can overcome that fear and stand firm, confident in the woman that you were created to be. And know that you are the only ___(Insert Name)___ out there, and you are important.
What is it that you do when the world seems to be clouding your perspective of yourself?
