What’s the Point of Your Life?
Gordon Avery
I’ve been thinking, dreaming, wondering, pondering…
What is the point of my life? What am I aiming at? I’m not talking about what I wasn’t to accomplish, but what do I want my life to look like? To be known by?
Have you ever asked yourself that?
Well, after much deliberation I have broken it down to two things. At first glance, they appear to be contradictions. Some wise scholars may use the word balance.
But the closer I look the more I see. That maybe. Just maybe. They don’t contradict nor balance. But rather complete one another.
After sifting through all my dreams and goals this is what it boils down to. I want to be a man who
- loves passionately.
- and, seeks wisdom desperately.
Not one or the other. But both.
I want to be a man who loves fiercely. Loves his wife, family, and friends with exuberant energy. I want to leave a mark on every stranger I pass by.
And I want to be a man who pursues wisdom with the same determination as one lost in a desert searching for water. To be a forever student of life and love.
Have you ever noticed that the wisest choices are the most loving in the end? Have you ever noticed that love doesn’t make sense half the time, but is the wisest thing you could do?
What would happen if my life was guided by these two questions: Is this wise? And is this loving?
What if that was my aim?
How would the world change if we were known as people who loved with all their strength and sought after wisdom with all our hearts?
Once we know where what we want to accomplish in this life, and who we want to be known for, we will be one step closer to making a difference in this world.
What do you want to be known for? What’s your life aim?
Best,
